KOTA KINABALU (SAT): A Handover of IDS Chairmanship Ceremony was held on 22 December 2020 in IDS Hall, Wisma SEDIA, to welcome the newly appointed Datuk Dr. Mohd Yaakub Bin Hj. Johari, who succeeded YB Datuk Darell Leiking, the outgoing IDS Chairman, who was also a former Federal Minister of Trade and Industry.

According to YB Datuk Darell, IDS is an important body to the State Government, and hopes that the Institute, under its new chairman and knowledgeable Board of Directors will continue to assist the Sabah Government in the development of the state, especially to recover its economy.

Datuk Dr. Yaakub stresses that IDS appreciates the contributions of YB Datuk Darell towards the development of Sabah, and will share his ideas and experience in promoting trade and investments into the state, especially among the RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) countries. The RCEP Agreement was successfully concluded by YB Datuk Darell during his tenure at MITI.

Sabah has tremendous resources and believe that with the right infrastructure and human capital, Sabah can push the state beyond its current potential. “Moving forward beyond the COVID-19 challenges, our strategies to rebuild the state’s economy has to be inclusive, and for that to materialise, IDS need to tap as much ideas and engagements with all stakeholders, especially industry’s experts, corporate leaders, SMEs and the disadvantaged groups,” Datuk Dr. Yaakub elaborated.

Following the Handover Ceremony, IDS Board of Directors held a Special Board of Directors’ Meeting, welcoming 5 newly appointed Board Members: Mr. Amde @ Hamdi Bin Sidik, Mr. Philip Bin Yaditing, Assoc. Prof. TS Dr. Ramzah Bin Dambul, Mr. Muhammad Suffian Bin Hindi @ Abd. Ghani and Mr. Azrul Bin Ibrahim.
