KOTA KINABALU (TUE): Associate Professor Dr. Ramzah Dambul has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Development Studies (Sabah) (IDS) effective 1st March 2022. He will lead the autonomous research organisation with the primary mission to assist the government in meeting the needs and aspirations of the people through research and analysis on development issues.
Dr. Ramzah has extensive experience within the academic and research sector, serving Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for 24 years in various academic and managerial positions, including his appointment as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) since 2019. In 2016 he served as the Deputy Secretary General of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTEC), coordinating STI-related sectors, and matters concerning bilateral and multilateral international cooperation related to aspects of STI.
Dr. Ramzah is an alumnus of University of East Anglia, United Kingdom where he obtained his Doctorate in Synoptic Climatology. He holds a Masters in Physical Geography from National University of Malaysia and Bachelor of Science in the same field from University of Malaya.
Over the course of his professional career, Dr. Ramzah holds directorships in various organisations which includes Hospital Universiti Malaysia Sabah (HUMS), Multimedia Technology Enhancement Operations (METEOR) and Atomic Energy Licensing Board. Dr. Ramzah has also served as a Research Expert and Visiting Fellow for the Center of Excellence for Climate Change Research King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, and Chevening Postdoctoral Fellow at the Climatic Research Unit, United Kingdom.
Among his priority in as the CEO of IDS is to stress on Innovation and Technology. Over the past year, science and technology has played a pivotal role globally within the social and economic development scene, hence the Institute aims to manoeuvre and facilitate the state into the application of Innovation and Technology within the social-economic spectrum in order to bring Sabah to a greater height.
