KOTA KINABALU (TUE): The Institute for Development Studies (Sabah), in collaboration with Ministry of Works Sabah and Sabah State Water Department will be organising a Webinar on Federal RMK12: Addressing Water Supply Issue in Sabah on Friday, 15th October 2021 at 2.30 p.m. via ZOOM.
“Clean water access has been a major issue in Sabah for decades, even more so in recent years with rapid development and urbanisation increasing the demand for clean treated water,” said IDS CEO, Mr. Anthony Kiob. He added that both the rural and urban population has been severely hit with water shortages due to several factors such as development efforts that restricts Sabah’s natural water sources and insufficient Federal Government’s fundings and intervention to resolve the State’s water issues. The tabling of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Bin Yaakob sees the acknowledgement and efforts to an increased infrastructure development in Sabah, especially in ensuring clean water supply to the state.
“As this is a serious on-going problem that the State has faced for many years, the Institute feels it is an appropriate time to organise a public webinar to fully understand the real situation that surrounds the issue of water shortages by relevant authorities,” Mr. Anthony further explained that the upcoming webinar serves to inform the masses on the strategic plans by the State Water Department to resolve the water shortages and be informed about the main factors needed to achieve 98% coverage of clean and safe water target by 2025 set by the Federal Government in the 12MP.
Mr. Edward Lingkapo, Director of State Water Department will be the speaker for this webinar. To register or for more information, please email IDS Secretariat, Mdm. Muntazilah Rhadiah Ramlee at [email protected] or visit www.ids.org.my
