KOTA KINABALU (THU): The Institute for Development Studies (Sabah) has conducted a recent online poll on the upcoming General Election (GE). The IDS Poll which was conducted from 25 July to 5 August 2022 is one of the Institute’s mechanisms to garner public’s opinions and feedback on the state’s key issues. It serves as a preliminary indicator before an in-depth research and analysis is carried out by the Institute.

 

The online poll was participated by 456 respondents of which 76.9% are male and 23.03% female, ranging from various age groups with 20.39% are from the 18-35 age group, 37.94% from 36-50 age group, 35.53% from 51-65, and 6.14% are from 66 years and above. Within the total respondents, 48% are public or private sector employees, 29.82% are business owners or self-employed, 20.39% are unemployed and 1.54% are students. The geographical analysis shows that 32.46% are urban respondents, 25.44% are sub-urban, and 42.11% are rural respondents.

 

The outcome of the survey shows that 17.11% of respondents predicted the GE will be held in the 1st quarter of 2023 (January – March), 44.74% predicted the 2nd quarter of 2023 (April – June), and 38.16% predicted the 4th quarter of this year (2022). 61.85% of the respondents predicted a 2023 election instead of the end of 2022. The Institute is planning to study and analyse the matter further using a more thorough tools such as survey.
