IDS (SABAH)-US EMBASSY TALK: THE IMPACT OF RECENT ARBITRATION DECISIONS ON SOUTH CHINA SEA DISPUTES.

When a court in France handed Malaysia a “decisive victory” over a long-running dispute with the alleged heirs of the Sultan Sulu, it is without a doubt a remarkable history and is set to become a prime reference for international arbitration courses.

One chapter may be closed. However, Malaysia is still involved in another territorial dispute over the South China Sea.

In line with the recent development, IDS in collaboration with the United States Embassy in Kuala Lumpur hosted a talk related to territorial dispute. The invited speaker, Professor Dr. Julian Ku, presented his analysis entitled “Geopolitical Implications of South China Sea Disputes:
A Legal Perspective.” Prof. Dr. Ku is the Interim Dean, Faculty Director of International Programs, and Maurice A. Deane Distinguished Professor of Constitutional Law, Hofstra University, USA.

IDS CEO, Datuk Dr. Ramzah Dambul delivered the introductory remarks. Also present during the talk were Datuk Adeline Leong, IDS Chairperson, Board of Directors, and invited attendees from various sectors.
